In Memoriam
Tom Johnson, Ohio Arts Council Board Member
Ohio Arts Council Board Member Tom Johnson passed away on October 31, 2024. In addition to serving on the OAC board for nearly a decade, Johnson earned a 2015 Governor’s Award for Community Development and Participation for revitalizing his hometown of Somerset, Ohio, where he served as mayor. He was a major force in support of investing in Appalachian Ohio, spearheading efforts to bring millions of dollars to Somerset and advocating for the region. He strongly believed in the arts and culture as an economic driver for urban and rural areas alike and cared deeply about fostering innovation, generating new ideas, implementing cutting-edge technology, and connecting people together to help the greater good. He brought transformational change and projects to Perry County and beyond, and he will be missed by many.Ohio Arts Council Board Member Tom Johnson passed away on October 31, 2024.
